Alta May Gross, 88, of Coleman died at her home on Friday May 6, 2016, with her family by her side. She was born January 11, 1928 in Isabella County, the daughter of the late William & Emma (Gilbert) Methner. Alta May Methner married Paul E. Gross June 18, 1949 in Coleman. He died November 28, 2011.
Our mom, Alta Gross was valedictorian in 1946 at Coleman High School and she attended business school. Her skills were used working with her husband, Paul, running the family farm. She pursued and nurtured her creative spirit with classes in painting, sewing, decorating cakes, dancing and beauty school. Alta was a compassionate caregiver who was generous and unselfish. Knowing she is with the Lord and reunited with loved ones gives us peace but we will deeply miss her.
Survivors include her children: Phillip Gross of Coleman, Aileen Acker of Sanford, Laura & Roger Dana of Coleman, Tim & Emily Gross of Grand Rapids, son-in-law J. Mike Acker of Coleman, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, sisters: Velma O’Connor of Alabama, Joan & Richard Diment of Midland, Lori Anthony of Florida, Kasey & Don Dennis of Coleman, Phyllis & Jim Simon of Coleman, sisters-in-law, Coral Methner of Midland and Doris Methner of Coleman. She was preceded in death by her grandson Bryan P. Gross, great-grandson Paul R. Clarke, brothers, William & Vern Methner, sister Ruth Gordon.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday May 12, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church, Coleman, with Rev. Louis Carsten officiating. Friends may call at the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 4-8 pm and at the church on Thursday starting at 10 am until the time of services.
