Shirley J. McCallister, 79, of Coleman, died Tuesday April 5, 2022 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant, with her family by her side. She was born October 4, 1942 in Trout Lake the daughter of the late Henry & Melvina (Nongueskwa) Vertz. Shirley J. Vertz married Walter McCallister March 10, 1961 in St. Ignace. He preceded her in death June 4, 2005.
Shirley retired from Walmart, Mt. Pleasant, after 20 years. She was very proud of her volunteer work with the Coleman Clothing Closet, Coleman Food Pantry and Lions International-Coleman Charter. Shirley enjoyed reading and trips to the Casinos.
Survivors include her children: Terry McCallister of Coleman, Rae Deane & Walt Keith of Clare, Jamie & Tammy McCallister of Beaverton, Billie Jo Parker of Coleman, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister Gloria & Bert Miller of Port Neches, Texas, several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son Walter John McCallister Jr., brothers Henry Raye Vertz and Gary Dean Vertz.
Funeral and committal services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday April 9, 20202 at the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. with Evangelist Rodney Colmus officiating, with a luncheon to follow at Unforgettable Events. Burial will take place in the Trout Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 12 noon until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to Woodland Hospice or the Coleman School Scholarship Fund.
