James G. Rogers, 85 of Coleman, died Tuesday November 12, 2024 at the Brooks of Gladwin. He was born January 2, 1939 in Lake Leelanau the son of the late Milford & Laura (Zeits) Rogers.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Jean of 64 years. They were married March 10, 1959 in Coleman. She preceded him in death March 10, 2023.
Jim was a hard-working and disciplined man who modeled for his five children the importance of putting in a good day's work. He enjoyed a successful career as a self-employed and highly sought-after stone mason. A master of his craft, his stonework can be found throughout the state of Michigan.
He was a man of many passions. He loved being outdoors, especially spending time in the woods with his chainsaw. He deeply loved his pets and enjoyed watching the deer and turkeys that regularly roamed his yard.
Jim always loved nature. He cared for a large garden as well as fruit trees, grapes, and raspberries, even making homemade wines from them (and dandelions!). In his younger years he spent time fishing, hunting and enjoyed many trips to Canada camping. He delighted in taking his grandchildren on tractor rides through the woods to visit the pine trees he had planted for each of them. In his later years, he most enjoyed riding his Amigo through the woods and time spent with family and friends, often playing cards and celebrating his victories.
Jim was a lifelong parishioner of the Coleman St. Philip's Catholic Church and Sanford Our Lady of Grace parishes. He participated in the Coleman JC’s, enjoyed bowling in a league with his wife Jean, and playing golf from sun up to sundown at his favorite course, Devil's Knob.
Survivors include his children: Anthony & Rona Rogers, Cynthia & John Lewis, Sandra & James Horton, Steven & Jami Rogers, Barbara Rogers & Michael Ward, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, special friend Betty Levi, brothers, Dick & Tammy Rogers, Joe & Debbie Rogers, sisters, Kit Miller, Sherry Simons, brother-in-law Mike Sweebe, many nieces and nephews. Jim was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Kayla Aultman, brothers, Bill Rogers, Buck Rogers, sisters, Pat Ropp and Sue Sweebe. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday November 22, 2024 at our Lady of Grace Parish, Sanford, with Fr. Daniel Fox, OFM Cap. officiating. Burial will take place in the Geneva Community Cemetery, North Bradley. Friends may call at the O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 5-8 pm and at the church on Friday starting at 10:30 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of Midland County.
