Mary Elaine Shafer, 65, of Clare, passed away Thursday May 12, 2022 at McLaren Bay Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1956 in Bay City the daughter of the late Robert Wright and Irene Love (Goodall Wright). Mary married Robert E. Shafer September 14, 1974 at Holy Scripture Lutheran Church in Midland. She was a member of the Clare Church of the Nazarene and led an active life of community volunteering (The Red Door, The Salvation Army, Secretary of the Pastoral Administration Council).
She is survived by her husband Robert, children Mike (Jasmine) Shafer of Mt. Pleasant, Jenny Ogg (Darrick Morley) of Gladwin, her grandchildren: Makayla, Cassidy, Kasey and Grayson. Her sisters Bobby Lou Wright of Marion, Denise (Daryl) Oest of Aloha, Oregon, brother Henry Love, Jr. of Falmouth, Mrs. Kenneth (Diana) Wright and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather Henry Love, Sr and brother Kenneth Wright.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday May 25, 2022 at the Clare Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Tim Falls officiating. Dinner will follow. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday starting at 10 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan in memory of Mary and in honor of her grandchildren Kasey and Grayson.
