Douglas William Sasse, Jr., 82, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away peacefully Monday, December 2, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte with his wife Kathy by his side. He was born March 28, 1942 in Midland, Michigan, the son of the late Douglas and Elvah (Schultz) Sasse, Sr.
Doug married Kathleen M. Drinkrow June 8, 1968 in Flint, Michigan.
He was a lifelong mid-Michigan educator and administrator. He held positions in Atherton and Freeland Public Schools early in his career. He was the long-time Superintendent of Corunna Public Schools and retired as the Superintendent of the Gratiot Isabella RESD. In retirement, Doug enjoyed reading, gardening, and staying current on national news and politics as well as following the exploits of his grandchildren who he treasured.
He leaves behind his wife of 56 years Kathy (Drinkrow), children Douglas III and wife Cheryl, Melissa, Nathan, Mary; his grandchildren Brendan, Allyson, Nicholas, Hannah, Olivia, Madelyn, Hunter, Kerstyn, Lilly; sisters Bonnie & Thomas Spencer, Patricia & Donald Coleman, and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister Linda Foreman.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am at O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Scott Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Midland City Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at O’Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday, December 8th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and on Monday, December 9th starting at 10 am until the time of services. The funeral reception will take place at the Coleman Weslyn Church preceding the burial at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Tidewell Hospice, 1158 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
